Simone Broadchurch
Sports journalist and photographer for The Curator newspaper and match commentator on Hi Five Radio. Simone loves to get a good story, even if it means putting noses out of joint.
Alfonso Romero-Lopez
Pevantsea’s assistant coach. Alfie, or Fonzie as the players call him, worked with Cam in Spain before they both joined the Beachcombers. He prides himself on being supportive and friendly, but he’s no less ambitious than Cam. He aims to shake the team out of its complacency.
Marcus Jones
General Manager at Medford United. Marcus is the ‘fixer’ who keeps everyone happy and makes sure everything runs smoothly. His daughter plays for the team but they both know her career will be limited if she stays with the Badgers. Marcus would like her to move to a bigger club like Pevantsea.
Ceri Thomas
Pevantsea’s No.1 keeper and Welsh international. Ceri is an experienced veteran for the Beachcombers. Known as ‘Hands’ for her dependability between the sticks, nonetheless she’s prone to anxiety, which she believes stems from a difficult childhood. Her degree in psychology helps her manage her feelings and hide them from the team.
Kaz Wilson
Pevantsea’s fearless centre back and a lethal tackler. Kaz has a wicked sense of humour and loves a wind-up. She tries to follow the rules but her mischievous nature often gets her into trouble. Luckily for her, she’s one of Cam’s favourites.
Charlie Maxwell
A rookie centre back in her first season with the Beachcombers. Charlie has confidence beyond her age from training in the Pevantsea Academy since she was 10 years old. She feels well-prepared for a successful career and aims to become a Lioness.
Andy Gregory
Security guard at Pevantsea women’s training centre. Andy is semi-retired these days, along with his long-time partner Studly. They’ve had many adventures over the years working in search and rescue and international airports. He tells himself he’s content with a quieter life.
Charlotte Mohr
Director of Marketing for Pevantsea, Charlotte is responsible for all aspects of the club’s promotion. The men’s operation takes most of her time but the new owners want more exposure for the women’s side. Charlotte must manage a complex portfolio of deals with media channels to cross-promote the owners’ various consumer interests to women and girls.
Jess Kelly
Manager of Medford United. Jess is from the US and was Cam’s assistant at a college team in California. That didn’t last long due to personality clashes. After being fired by Cam, Jess found she wasn’t being offered other opportunities. Eventually she took a manager job with little-known Medford in England. Having achieved promotion to the Women’s Superior League she is now earning respect on her own terms. But she hasn’t forgiven Cam for derailing her career…
Abbie McPhee
Captain of Pevantsea and a formidable defensive midfielder. Abbie is a proud Scot and natural leader with a no-nonsense outlook that managers appreciate. She’s dedicated her life to football and is starting to wonder what she will do when she retires from playing in a few years.
Cam Brady-Stowe
Pevantsea manager. Cam has an enviable track record for leading teams to success. Highly regarded in women’s football, she wants to move to the next level by getting Pevantsea to the Champions League. Cam’s well-to-do family background and military training give her an intimidating air. But people close to her know she is exceptionally generous and cares deeply about her players and staff.
Sara Polegate-Sands
Left wingback for Pevantsea. Widely admired as an intelligent playmaker with dazzling pace. Sara has received many offers from other teams, but she prefers to stay with the Beachcombers where her wife Laura is also a player. Sara is popular with her team-mates and sometimes takes the role of captain if Abbie is unavailable.
Niamh O’Sullivan
Marketing executive for Pevantsea women’s team. Niamh has the daunting task to reshape the squad’s image to be more attractive to sponsors. Despite being fresh out of university, she has quickly gained Charlotte’s trust that she can deliver. Secretly, Niamh sometimes wonders if she’s ‘putting lipstick on a pig’.
Samira ‘Puff’ Ansari
Rookie winger at Medford United. In her first season as a professional Samira is already impressing her manager and taking a leading role in the team. She’s also busy off the field with nightclub gigs and a modeling contract. Samira got her nickname ‘Puff’ from Cam when the Pevantsea manager criticised her during a game for playing like a ‘puff ball’.
Tiril Dahlsen
Norwegian super-star in her first season at Medford. No one is quite sure why she joined the Badgers when any of the bigger clubs in the league, including Pevantsea, would want her. Tiril often surprises people and she’s known as a ‘free spirit’ who likes to follow her impulses. One of these was Abbie McPhee, with whom she had a secret summer fling.
Nina Forde
Pevantsea’s No 2 keeper. Nina joined this season from the Academy and impressed management with her talent and attitude. Having been an outfielder, Nina is as good with her feet as her hands. But she’d prefer to be at a London team to be close to her family and friends. Several of her relatives work in men’s football and they say they will pull strings. Can Pevantsea hang on to her?
Ruth Crenshaw
Peventsea’s new rookie striker. The Beachcombers are short of fire-power up front so when a scout spotted Ruth at a non-league side in Cumbria, Cam and Alfonzo were willing to take a risk. Ruth rewarded their belief with a goal against Medford on her debut. Quiet but with a steely competitiveness, Ruth aims to be the best at everything she does.
Dorian ‘DT’ Smith
Pevantsea’s midfield playmaker, DT pulls the strings to move the ball from back to front. Widely admired as ‘the next Kiera Walsh’, she calculates angles and passes with inhuman precision. Fans call her the Engineer. Her team-mates call her DT for Deep Thought as she is introverted and has many technical interests outside football, such as software development.
Studly Bratwurst II
Security dog at Pevantsea women’s training ground. Studly has worked with his handler Andy for many years. Highly-valued for his exceptional sense of smell and dedication to his job, Studly has saved lives on mountain-sides, in valleys, and even earthquake zones. Although he’s mainly German Shepherd, he has some Bloodhound in his ancestry.
